Ant powder comes in many different forms and most are extremely effective against containing Ant Infestation if used correctly.
The problem that many people suffer from is that they do not know how to use ant powder properly and therefore the infestation is likely to remain, even after a brief subsidence period.
Ant Control
Ant Powder that you can buy in hardware stores has very detailed instructions on the side of the packaging that should be followed strictly and without question.
The best way to kill a Colony of Ants is to make sure that the ant powder affects the food source that the ants carry into the nest. There is no point simply putting ant powder on top of a nest because this will only kill the ants that come into contact with the powder.
You have to understand that there are usually many different exits from one Ant Colony and unless you block them all with lots of ant powder it is unlikely that you will have a great affect on the nest. This still may not be enough even to kill the whole ants nest.
Tackling an Ants Nest
The best way to kill a whole ants nest is to kill the queen, and because you can't exactly bury down into the ground to find her, you must make sure that the food, which is carried down into the ants nest by Worker Ants, is infected thoroughly.
This is more likely to kill both the queen and the larvae, whom the food is being taken down into the ants nest.
When laying the powder make sure that all off the adjacent cracks in the pavement to the one where you have seen the ants nest are also powdered. Ants will become familiar with the fact that they die when exiting one hole and so will
attempt to create a new entrance to their tunnels.
If you have covered all the cracks in the pavement then there is less of a chance that they will emerge onto un-treated areas.
Dealing with Red Ants
Be extra vigilant when dealing with Red Ant Nests as they can give quite a vicious bite when provoked. Ensure that you do not get too close the hole in question when pouring the powder.
Also ensure that children and pets are kept away from the powder once it have been placed. Ant powder is effective at killing red ants but is also potentially fatal to both pets and humans even with the tiniest amount ingested.
For larger commercial occurrences of ant nests a Liquid Ant Spray is often used via a pump to spray all of the cracks in an area that could potentially contain an ants nest. The same method is used to kill weeds that grow in cracks around towns.
